About the Event

Unstoppable, unforgettable, untamed.

Join us for a night of poetry with V. Kali & Jaha Zainabu & Pam Ward!!

V. Kali is the author of "Hymn."

HYMN is a captivating collection of poetry from one of Los Angeles’ best known voices, V. Kali. This menagerie of verses is a treatise on the men in her life, and how she loved them best with her words. Regarded as the bedrock of The Anansi Writer’s Workshop at The World Stage Performance Gallery, Kali provides these lyrical meditations on how to live in between the degrees of life, love and breathing.

Jaha Zainabu is the author of "365.2013: A Poem a Day Series"

When Jaha Zainabu started this project of writing a poem a day she didn't know how far she would get. Turns out, she made it all the way to 365 days. Some days she even wrote more than one. The poems are meant to show that we can write even when we don't feel like it or don't know what to write about. Please enjoy going through Jaha's poems and seeing how her year (2013) unfolded. There are poems in this book that cover the spectrum from sad to happy to comical. This book is real life. There are many poems dedicated to her son, Uraeus and many poems that express gratitude, some even are letters to herself. Read the book front to back or from the middle to front to back. Just have fun.

Pam Ward is the author of the newly released "Between Good Men & No Man At All"

“Pam Ward shapes the distance of remembering with poignancy, a black eye, a knocked down Dinah, and blam blam. In her pen, language croons on “the corner of 43rd and pain.” Summon your courage and plunge into Ward’s truths; you’ll be glad you did.”

– Lynne Thompson, Poet Laureate of Los Angeles
